Remember that ICONIC scene in Superbad when Michael Cera’s character is walking in step with Becca, the girl he likes, down the hall after securing a date to a party and instead of just casually walking with her he walks super fast ahead of her and causes this unnecessary awkward situation? Well, this comic is exactly like that scene, but instead of walking quickly away from the person Dennis is attempting to disappear. Also important to note that I’m not implying that Dennis has a secret crush on Sarge. BUT I AM ALSO NOT SAYING THAT HE DOES NOT.

CUPS 16: Claire

I have never completely forgotten someone that I dated. I do feel like this would be hard to do, unless you either date a tremendous amount of people or are aggressively rude. What I have done is completely forgotten about people that I used to be fringe friends with, or people that I basically grew up with, going to the same classes for upwards of 10 years. I know this borders on me sounding like a straight-up jerk, but I’m sure I also act as the forgotten in other’s minds also, so it’s whatevs. Like, I went to a party back in my hometown two years after I graduated high school, and I ended up talking to this girl who I knew that I was supposed to know and I couldn’t remember her name or anything about her. In writing this out I’m realizing, rather alarmingly, that this may be more a symptom of a memory issue than anything else.

I considered drawing a ‘This Side Up’ with an arrow pointing down on the box that Sarge is carrying, before thinking better of it… I think that would have been just a notch above a banana peel joke. But, then again, I sort of feel like in real life someone slipping on a banana would be pretty hilarious, if done all legit-like.

I suppose the joke in this strip is that they’re hiding behind the car, as if they are children. Though I suppose the really cynical societal joke here is the idea that there are actually comedies that aren’t male driven… Sorry about the punchline confusion, everyone… Will work on more efficient joke telling post-haste.
